The batch is death index with name and date of death, page number only. The template has a place for the deceased and owner. The index has (owner) listed by some names listed in the deceased column. I have been putting the name in both the deceased and the owner entries. Is that correct?

Hi @EllenMitchell Because this is an index, I am tagging @Melissa S Himes to weigh in on this & tag me back so I can see her response/corrections Example: In line 2 (left side of page) Name of Deceased: John G Cabaniss (owner), I would index John as the deceased but the Owner Boxes should be <blank> . How to index the right-hand column, I'm not sure. Please hold this batch until we have a response. Thanks

@maryellenstevensbarnes1 Thanks for the tag, but, I really have no idea how to index this. My opinion is that when it says Owner, that the deceased's given and surname would be blank and the Owner fields, dates and pages would be filled in. Examining the film, one can see that the slaves had a name, they just didn't write it on this index. For example, on March 1, 1862, Ned a 2 year old died of Typhoid and the slave owner is listed as Dr G A Carter. So, it would be wrong to list G A Carter as deceased and the name of Ned doesn't appear anywhere on this image. Personally, I wouldn't even bother wasting time indexing this image because it may be very confusing for the reviewer and could be sent back for reindexing or even worse marked NED which would wipe out someone's hard work! Just my opinion. Maybe a project manager or someone from FamilySearch will weigh in on this one.

Here's the link to the image with GA Carter and the film.
