In the new view you cannot correct non-standarized places like you can in the old view. This was much better the way it was before.

The process is a little different. In some ways it is a bit quicker. It depends on the situation. Sometimes it needs to be a two part process. Here is how you do this in three different situations: https://youtu.be/D9mRZhEUcqY

Is there a specific situation where you are having trouble doing this? If you post the ID and tell me what you want the standard to be I could take a look and see what is being confusing about the process.

To share feedback with the engineers that are working on the new person page, here is a link to the group that the new person page team monitors: https://community.familysearch.org/en/group/316-new-person-page

The problem is when there is no correct standardized place in the dropdown menu. I cannot even start to tell you about all the problems with Norwegian place names. In the old view we I was able to do both the place name chosen by myself and a standardized in addition.

@muherland, the dual-field placename setup hasn't changed. The algorithm that populates the drop-down has unfortunately been disimproved, but it is possible to work around its faults.

See for example https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/comment/484736#Comment_484736, where I tried to explain how to keep a farm name in the display while putting the pin in the correct parish. (That example was Sweden rather than Norway, but I believe the difficulties are similar.)

You can still enter any full place name as you need to and the correct standardized addition.

I mainly research in Norway so I can start to tell you all the problems such as the fact that there are many thousands of missing place names, there are many thousands of place names that were entered without including the needed municipality, and the initial database load had a lot of incorrect latitude and longitudes so the map pins are not in the correct place. These flaws are slowly being corrected but it will take years because basically the vast majority of Norwegian place names currently in the database need to be improved and many more need to be added.

However, we can still put in the correct place names. The procedure in the new pages is a bit more cumbersome than in the the old and I hope the programmers can get it tuned up. Specific examples of difficulties reported in the New Person Page group will help them.

In the meantime, @muherland , here is another short video I created that may be more directly on what you are running into: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icVBYUJDHss

Originally entering a place name and editing a place name do work a little differently and editing is harder but it is still doable. The main key fact to keep in mind in the current procedure in the new pages is that once a standard is entered, editing the place name does not change the standard. Correcting a standard is a second step. Most of the time it is actually pretty straight forward, but occasionally, depending on whether the exact place name occurs with a few different parent place names but not the one you want, it can be a little tricky.

Again, please post an example of a place that you are having trouble getting entered correctly or can't get corrected and I'll demonstrate how to do this on that specific place.

It has it up and downs, all I can say is I hope they make it easy for every one.✍️
