Data correction - 1865 New York State Census
Hello, for the New York state census in 1865, collection page https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1491284, in Caygua County, the town categorized as Barton is incorrect. Film # 004239219
There was no town of Barton in Cayuga County. The town name is Brutus. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-D1F9-XV5 page starts the town of Brutus, which is not easy to read.
I have checked this with the county historian and can send her email if you need it to check the information.
The town of Barton in Tioga county is correctly categorized on Film # 004239194.
Please let me know if you need more information.

Noted. Is this the best place to place a message like this, or shall I email someone on the data team?

If there were only edit privilege to change the town name once ... It would be nice if that changed them all.
This is just the breadcrumb link.

@SMiller.nygbs Thank you for reporting the error in the index of the 1865 New York State Census where Brutus was misidentified as Barton. This looks like an error that occurred when preparing the images for indexing. After an indexing project is completed, it is not re-opened in order to correct the errors. Unfortunately, all indexes are flawed by their very nature. People make mistakes--sometimes those mistakes impact many records.
Fortunately, you can edit the index of this record collection. We suggest that, as you are researching in the collection and see errors, you click the Edit button on a record details page (this is a record details page: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVNJ-HC72). The Edit button is in the dark banner at the top that includes the name of the person. You'll find that the NY Stake Census for 1865 allows you to edit the event date and the Event Place.
