Please Add Witness to the "Add Other Relationships" Drop Down Menu

Many records for people in family tree include Witnesses e.g. Marriages, Baptisms, Wills etc. It would be great if you could add these Witnesses. I am suggesting to add to the "add Other Relationships" menu, however it would be even better if you could identify Witnesses directly from the Source documents themselves as witnesses vary by source document.

I'm half-tempted to suggest combining godparents and witnesses into one category: they're both other participants in a vital event or rite. Similarly, "neighbor" and "household" should maybe be combined, since they both cover people who are associated with the principal by their place of residence. And I wonder how "Employment" could be re-labeled to include things like fellow soldiers and co-workers.

But I agree that witnesses should somehow be included under Other Relationships.

(This suggestion should perhaps be moved to or repeated in the New Person Page group.)

In the catholic records in Latin America it is customary to find family members listed as witnesses to births, deaths, and marriages.

With the newer 'edit every field' indexer rolling out - if/when it reaches the records you mention - you can index the witnesses and any relationship mentioned in the record (I don't think supposed relationships are supposed to be indexed - but you can then do that in Family Tree by linking the record to those mentioned).

Hello, guys. Just a suggestion.

Please add to the list of "other relationships" the option of "Marriage witness". Or maybe put this option somewhere else. Witnesses are extremely common in Brazil (and other countries, I assume) in both civil and religious marriages. Thank you

Hi,

I was wondering if it would be possible to widen the range of "Add Other Relationship" to include Witnesses for Marriages and Beneficiaries for Wills and Probates.

This would be helpful in being able to complete attachments within sources. The current ones are limiting due to the fact not all Witnesses at Marriages are Relatives and not all Beneficiaries for Wills and Probates are Relatives. These people have been important enough to be present when a person has either been married or named by a person in their will.

It would also be beneficial to simply have "Other" or "Custom" listed in the "Add Other Relationship" section where the user can stipulate the "Other Relationship". This helps to build a better picture of each person's life

Simply adding the option for a Witness would be sufficient, and then we can specify in what capacity: marriage, christening, will/probate, land deed, court document, etc. But I agree that this would be VERY helpful! :)

There are many reasons to widen this beyond just a new option "witness". I would like "Custom" to be an option. I have information or objects which have information about business associates of ancestors, school graduates of the same class as ancestors, appointed agents who had legal authority to do something for an ancestor, and people who provided court testimony on behalf of an ancestor, just to name a few. Providing these relationship connections can really help others to sort between possible duplicates.
