How do I enter a surname such as McArthur with two uppercase letters?

    The capital M will come up automatically, for the A use your shift key.

    I hope that is what you were asking.

    Thank you, but I wonder if a space should be placed, such as Mc Arthur? Or Van Dell? Or O'Brien?

    are you referring to Family Tree

    or are you referring to INDEXING

    or soemthing else

    In Family Tree - personally I would spell it exactly the way the person themselves spelled it.

    and if thats different than other people in the system - so be it.

    Just my 2 cents.

    I was always told to index what I see. If the record has no space, then I would not add one.

    In normal usage there is no space in a Mc name. However, it really doesn't matter if you put a space or not. Either way, it won't be counted as an error and won't make a difference when someone searches that name in Family Search.
