Separate Tittle and Suffix Fields on Temple Name Cards
I entered this suggestion elsewhere and someone commented that I should post it here.
When we enter a name in FamilySearch there are four fields: Title, First Names, Last Names, and Suffix.
When temple cards are printed only two fields are printed: Given Names and Surnames. The Title and First Names fields are combined into the Given Names field and the Last Names and Suffix fields are combined into the Surnames field on the temple name cards. This can, and does, cause some confusion in the temple. For example, some "Title"s can look like a name, especially if they are in a foreign language like German. And I have seen sealers wondering whether they should pronounce a suffex.
An example of this is Hauptmann Anton Schmid von Uri 2 b, which is from an ancestor that I am working on. Hauptmann is a title. The 2b is a family number, which a non member likes to put in the suffix field so that he can track his ancestors easier. I will be doing the endowment for this ancestor soon and will likely have to explain that Anton, not Hauptmann, is the first name.
Please change the temple name cards so that all four name entry fields are shown and labeled and each field separated by a vertical line.
Thank you.
