Why are there so few batches to choose from

Joan,
No. Please understand the following: FamilySearch is in the process of changing the image collections to an 'edit every field indexing app' - there could potentially be more indexing opportunities than will be known what to do with when this occurs. I do not know if this means the old indexing app is being buried or not - but if so - let's have a good funeral and move on to the new app (focus on learning the new process rather than complain 'bring back the old'). The new process/app involves reviewing a computer index for correctness and editing names, ... relationships that need correction/edit.

I don't understand the reluctance to do even other English-language records. There are people all over the world who will be blessed by the work we're doing. I have a Thai exchange student right now and I haven't dared show her the magic of FS, because there are so few members in Thailand that I don't have a lot of optimism that she will have an exciting first experience. I'm honestly kind of stunned that people would be unwilling to help index records from other countries, especially if they share the same language. We can't follow Christ very well if we are putting our national identity before our identity as members of the family of God.

The lack of UK batches for such a long time is very disappointing. I have been indexing for many years but I will now give up waiting for suitable projects and sign up for FreeReg who can benefit from my free time.

I feel the same as most of those who have posted here. I can not read most of the advanced projects. What intermediate projects that do come up are usually completed before I have availability to see them. I can only check every couple of days. I am looking forward to more US projects coming available. I didn't mind doing the South Africa and Australia projects as I could read them.

Here it is April 26th and still not much to choose from in the way of indexing. I don't feel comfortable in doing the advanced batches. Please, get some more intermediate batches on FamilySearch soon. For sure there is a lot more batches that could be put out.

It has been like this for well over a year. I have been asking why, but never get an answer.

I bet that easy and intermediate batches would be simple to teach a computer. I wouldn't be surprised if we have indexed a majority of bmd records in the US. There are probably tons more foreign language records that need to be indexed than English ones.
I enjoy doing Name Review in the Get Involved app. It is quick and easy, and I can do it on my phone when I am waiting in line or for a dr appt.

What I don't understand is why a project is posted on Sunday morning, is 40% finished Sunday evening, and gone Monday morning. Then reappears Monday afternoon, and is 60% complete and I am not allowed to index a batch. Why not leave the project open and available until it is complete, like you did before the 1950 census?

I enjoy doing indexing and try to work on it for at least an hour daily. I do intermediate indexing. The choices are very limited compared to when I started doing this ten years ago. In reading past comments it appears we may not be needed for this if computers take over. Correct? I guess I'll have to find another hobby that interests me.

My understanding is that computers will be used to do an initial phase - and humans will review the work of the computers for accuracy - but thats just what Ive heard thru the grapevine.
My impression is we are in a transition phase of how the work is done - and the new way just isnt quite ready yet for prime time at the volume that was being done before.
If you are interested - HUMANS are very much needed in the Family Bible Preservation Project - which is similar to indexing - but it many ways much more fulfilling.

Billion Graves, National Archives' Citizen Archivist and Geneanet are a few sites that I use.
