Question about place-names volunteer opportunity
Hi there. I've been skipping a lot of place names because I don't see a place and time period that correspond to the date and location that the researcher provided. Wondering if there's some guidance about how to choose the best standardized location when time periods on the standardized place don't seem to match the research.
Here are some examples...
Many thanks!

@AlissonPharr - thank you for posting this query to FS Community. From your first example you already have two possible standardised addresses - "Hamlet" and "Populated Place", neither of which are governed by date restrictions. As indicated above, your entries don't over-write the original. It is much easier when all the information seems to correspond but there will be situations when you have to skip it and move on to the next one. Please don't let that discourage you. You are doing valuable work. In your second example it looks like all you can do is skip it because you don't have a viable alternative. Thankfully a very small percentage of the entries require you to skip them and move on to the next one. Good luck.
Kind Regards,
John L. Kennedy.

I've come across this too. Remember when finding places names in the United States pre-1776, that it was a British Colony, so many of the cities and many of what we call the states did not exist yet. You will probably have to be less specific and delete from left to right to get a suggested place name to appear with a time period attached.
For first example:
North Carolina, British Colonial America
Carolina, British Colonial America
For the second example:
Norfolk, Massachusetts, British Colonial America
Norfolk, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America [Note: the Colony has an earlier time period]
Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America
Plymouth Colony, British Colonial America [Note: If city showed Plymouth, Massachusetts, 1620 -1691]
Remember, the original place name will stay as is, and what you save (if you do), appears in a separate, second entry as the standardized place name.
