Indexing for Spain Consular Records of Emigrants - Cuba
Hi,
Hopefully I've got the right spot, but there's a specific set of records that I was hoping could be added to the whatever list exists to get indexed. My mom is from Cuba, and for decades we've struggled to make progress on her side of our family history. Having exhausted most other options, I've been able to locate a set of records on FamilySearch that might have a lead for my great-grandfather: 1927 Fifths and Enlistments for the Spanish Consulate in Havana. That set of records is linked below:
My great-grandfather could easily be somewhere in those records, but it's 800,000 images, and is currently unindexed. I'm wondering how to get these records on the list to get indexed, or, if necessary, how I could potentially index them myself. If I'm going to search through these records, I'd want to make sure that effort could help others who would want to search through those records. I'm also afraid that I'd miss the right record in my amateur search.
Is there anything I can do to advocate for the indexing of these records? Is there a right person to talk to to make that happen?

Did you find the right person to get on the list for indexing? I'm wondering if you did, or if anyone else would like to help? My Spanish is not great but I could help.

It is so odd that this showed up after all these months! The first post apparently went unanswered on November 8, 2022. Good that Sonja2 helped it resurface!
In any event:
There is no way to suggest that collections get indexed. There are many steps to the process, and also many times there are roadblocks! For instance, governments and other owners have control over their records and the right of privacy for individuals. Based on that, I don't think one would be allowed to index them on their own or with the help of others. Actually, I think it would violate the agreements that we sign with FamilySearch when we sign up to use the website. (I haven' read the terms and conditions for a long time).
I have browsed through collections like this and been able to find information that led to answers. Hope you do too! Trying to narrow it down to places and decades is most helpful.
Best wishes on your search!
