At the beginning of the deed index, it lists "Sweet, Sweedt" as surnames do I put both with an "or?"

You will index every entry under "Sweet or Sweedt" as "Sweet Or Sweedt". Any surname that contains more that one surname with be separated by the word "or". Ex: Staley Or Stahley Or Stahlley.

stacystuart1 In the general the instructions it show a capital but I don't think it matters. A capital is just what will come up first when you type or.
- From the General instructions: Surname: Broski Or Browzowski Or Brzozowski

Thanks! Is it "or" or a capital O for "Or?" Or does it matter?

I'm reviewing VA marriages. The date the license was taken out is listed but I'm thinking I should be correcting it and entering the date of marriage. I've reviewed some VA marriage records where the couple took out a license but returned it, never having married. In one instance, the groom returned the license and married someone else two weeks later.
License date or marriage date?

@SmithJanice1016 , there is a hierarchy for dates if no marriage date is present.
Index the date that the marriage actually took place. If the actual marriage date was not recorded, index the marriage date based on the following priority:
- Certificate date
- License date
- Latest (usually 3rd) date of banns
- Application date
- Return date
- Date the record was signed
For the groom who returned it, there should be at least one entry made, that of the groom and the first bride using the license date (license is higher priority than return) as the marriage date. Sharing the batch code will give us more detail on the second bride/date for the groom.
