US, Massachusetts—Boston Tax Records, 1822–1918 [Part Y][M31T-TJ8]

It shows year, surname, prefixes, and given name, do I fill out each given name on the document or what? I don't even see where the prefixes show on the document. Can you help me? The instructions are not helping.

Thank you!

    Hi, Megan Olsen_2_1

At present without further instructions from the FS team we are doing the following:

    Your first entry would be:

    Year 1899

    Prefix (blank)

    Surname Newman or Neuman

    Given Names Stephen G

You have the year in correctly and that goes for all 21 entries for this batch. You are correct there are no prefixes on the document so you mark this field blank using control B.

There has been some Question about the surname field but the latest instruction from the help line was to include both spellings separated by or. So Newman or Neuman will be in the surname field until you get to entry #7 and then you would replace that with Newmann.

The writing is a bit difficult to read but I think I got the first given name correct. Line 4 and 5 both have William G so you would only make one entry for William G Newman or Neuman.

    Hope this helps

This is an instance where the Field Help (purple question mark) is a huge help:

If prefixes were not recorded or were written as a variation of the word "unknown," press Ctrl+B to mark this field blank.

Most, if not all, fields are now required fields (marked with a *) in every project. For those fields, such as Prefixes, that are not on an entry, we are to mark it blank. However, keep in mind that not every prefix will be blank, just like not every child will have a name nor will every mortgagee/mortgagor be an individual.
