Does FamilySearch messaging auto-delete attached images?

I attached an image through my gallery and shared it with my Family Group. Viewing the message now - a week or two later - shows that the "image deleted...". Is this normal for all attached images in messages or why was the image deleted (yes I have read the fine print)?
