indexing burials of South Africa

I'm stumped.on this one. Doing South Africa-Church of the Province of South Africa

Parish Registers, 1801 - 2004 (Part J) (M3RN - RCX) On the left, the paper covers all the information except for the names. Should I include that list of names? If so, before the one on the paper or at the end of that page?

Hi,

The general guidelines give us the following:

Overlays

Occasionally you will come across an image that is partially covered by another document on top of it, referred to as an overlay. When this occurs, do the following:

• If the overlay contains information about a record type being indexed in the project, create a separate record, and index the information in the corresponding fields. If it does not pertain to the record type being indexed in the project, then do not index any information from it.
• Do not try to index any information underneath the overlay that may be visible.

The information in the overlay is a burial so for the first page (page 4) you would only index the information on the overlay. For the next page (page 5) you would index all of the information as nothing is covered.

If you check the reference image +1 you will see that in that image (page 4) is not covered and so will be indexed by someone else.

I am also working on the south african burial records. when it is a reopening of a grave, domake an entry for the person that has been previously buried?

@barbarachristensen3 Hi, is there another name/person to be buried on top of the previously buried person? If so, index the new person to be buried. Other more experienced indexers have indicated that the previous person will have been indexed in an earlier batch - and researchers will be able to see the original of the record you are indexing, so they will find both names 😎

Thank you so much for such a quick reply. I have been only doing the new person that is to be burried, but I came across several batches where both mentioned people have been indexed. I have corrected some of those, but I was getting so many lately, I felt I had to make sure I was doing it right. Thanks again.
