The principal name is often a male's name and sometimes a female name

Are we to whatever name is first as the principal's name

    Yes and remember that a "female" name does not always indicate sex - ex Frances is female; Francis is male

    @Carole Diane Lambert Wilson

    If you look at the entry fields there is none for sex/gender. So the first name is the "Principal" and the second is the "Spouse"

    For example:

    Line 1:

    Principal's GIven Name: Ann D

    Principals' Surname: GIll

    Spouse's Given Name: Jus (sp?) E

    Spouse's Surname: Anderson

    Line 6:

    Principal's Given Name: Albert

    Principal's Surname: Graves

    Spouse's Given Name: Mary Jane

    Spouse's Surname: Spence
