I have a question about when I open up family tree

In my settings under:

Family Tree Starting Person

This person appears in the root position when I open Family Tree.

My name appears in my settings. However, that is not what happens. The family tree opens up into the last person that I was dealing with when I left the site. I do a lot of volunteer work with the BYU Record Linking Lab and a Stake T&FH consultant. So when I open FS and try to do my own family it opens up into what I was last working on, not necessarily my family. My settings say it should open up to me in the root position and it doesn't.

    @SimmsD2

    Thank you for posting your question in the Community.

    This is a recent change in Family Tree. The quickest way to get back to yourself (or root position) is to click on the Recents tab and select your name, which will always be at the top of the list.

    Another option is to click on the Home icon that can be found in the upper right corner of the webpage in the Landscape, Portrait, and Fan Chart views.

    This fairly new article from the Help Center may help.

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-change-the-root-person-in-family-tree

    Here is information from the 5th bullet point in this article:

    • When you sign out and back in with the same browser, you see the last viewed individual and not the starting person. This is stored in the cookies of your browser. Unless you clear the cookies, or use a different browser, you will not start with the starting person. The reason for this is to prevent forcing people to start over if they accidentally sign out, or if they are signed out due to a time-out.

    We hope this helps.

    Best wishes.

    Thank you for the answer. I am the root person in my settings, I have always been. So it must be the cookies.

    No, SimmsD2, it is not a cookies issue. Reread CJTober's post above. This is a recent change to FamilySearch. To put yourself in the root position you need to click the little house icon each time you find yourself out of the root position. The system no longer allows you to choose a default.
