Where would I look for a category that fits my questions?

1. A couple of weeks ago, I sent an email to [email protected] but don’t know where to see if my question’s been answered.

2. Also, if I post it in the Community, do I need to periodically search for my question to see if it has been answered there?

We appreciate you asking your questions in the Community.

When you send a question via email, you should receive an answer in your email Inbox. It would be a good idea to check your Spam or Junk folder just in case the email reply landed there.

When you post here in the Community, you will also receive an email advising you that you have received an answer. Click the link provided in the email, and it will bring you back here to this Community page.

    We hope this helps.

    Best wishes.

Caveat - you'll receive an email notification about an answer here in the Community IF you have your notification preferences set to be notified by email.

For more clarification regarding your Community notification preferences. Here is an article from the help center regarding those preferences:

Again, welcome to the Community. It is an excellent place to be. 😊

Regardless of your notification settings, you can check for replies to your question here in the Community, without needing to search for the thread.

Option one: at the rightmost end of the top menu bar, click your profile icon (the gray circular thingy), then click on your name in the resulting drop-down. In the right-hand column of the resulting profile page, click the word "Discussions" to see one version of a list of threads you've started. Find the question and click its title to go to its page, then scroll down to see the replies (if any).

Option two: either choose "My Discussions" in the profile-icon-dropdown, or choose "My Discussions" from the Quick Links menu at the top of the right-hand column on most Community pages. Note that as far as I can tell, this version of the list only includes threads started in one of the categories under FamilySearch Help or in Suggest an Idea; it does not appear to include threads started in a Group.

Also note that if you've ever flagged someone's post for moderator attention, that will increment your discussion count, but will be otherwise completely invisible. This is why my counter says 101, but my "Discussions" list actually consists of 63 things (some of them remnants of postings to previous iterations of the forum software), while my list of "My Discussions" has 37 threads.
