Correcting a daughter who is shown as belonging to her mother and her stepmother.

My ancestor married twice and a daughter by his second marriage has been incorrectly shown as a daughter of both marriages. So she appears twice in the tree. I have followed the instructions about modifying family relationships but with no success. Deleting the daughter from the first marriage brings up an error message saying that I cannot complete the action as the second marriage already exists.

Any suggestions please?

Go to the daughter's Details page and scroll down to the Family Members section.

In the right-hand column of that section, find where her name appears below the incorrect parents and click the pencil to the right of her name.

On the resulting flyout, find where it lists her as a "Child" and click "Remove or Replace" in that section.

Click the "I have reviewed..." checkbox, then click the Remove Parents button.

Editing relationships is a confusing concept, but I find that it helps to notice that throughout the process, you're editing the child, not the parents. It's like when untangling a ball of yarn, all is good as long as you can hang onto the end you've found.

    Julia,

Your help appreciated. I followed the same procedure yesterday with no success.

This time it worked. Must have done something different.

    Regards

    Chris
