While reviewing a referencing image says "image currently unavailable" (Forbidden)

Occasionally when reviewing there is a need to use the referencing image option to complete reviewing. (Like the record is continued on an image not included in the batch) Usually the referencing image can be accessed.

However sometimes when attempting to access the image that follows on the batch I am reviewing I just get a message "image currently unavailable" (Forbidden) I find this confusing as the indexed record I am reviewing has information that they obviously found from the referencing image.

Help anyone?

The only way I know how to overcome this problem is to go to the original documents by using the image #. You find the # by clicking on Batch at the top right side of the page. Then click on About Batch and you should see the full reference number listed as Image Name.

Then by going to Search and using the first group of numbers you would be able to find the set of records you are working on. The second set of numbers is the exact page in that set of records.

John Empoliti has given a very good explanation of how to do all of this. If he checks this he will be able to help.

I use the following short cut to get me to the right search page. If you open the link in a new tab you should be able to find the information you need, close the tab and then just keep on working.

Image Group Number Search — Explore Images Results — FamilySearch.org

    Hi @SaltBarbara2 and @LarryClark43

Thanks for the tag, Larry. Here is the procedure for viewing the original film to (usually) find a “forbidden” reference or other image in a batch. I won’t go into more detail here, but if the original images are on multiple films, it involves a little more complicated arithmetic to determine which film to use, and which image in that film.
