Increase ability to limit searches

What is going on with limiting searches? I am trying to research a black family in the South. All of a sudden I can't limit by race and the ability to search a certain type of document in Virginia (which existed before) is totally gone. Do you have any idea how many Johnsons there are in the US? I've noticed other glitches lately. I hope these tools will return.

It would be great to be more exact when limiting by date. I put in dates and find that I'm presented with sources/documents from a hundred years before or after the dates I specify.
