Assistance with French Religious Prefixes

Hi, I'm having trouble understanding the religious prefixes in this batch. The line above the yellow ruler has "Soeur Cecile" which I'm sure is Sister Cecile who was probably a nun, but the line above that has what appears to be "R d Gres" which may indicate a reverend. Can anyone confirm this? And would his first name be Alexander?

This is an Australian batch, so won't be available to many people, but this is the batch info:

Thanks for your assistance!

    Hi,

    My first language is french, so I can confirm that Soeur Cécile is Sister Cecile, and she was a nun, but as to the other name, all I can say is that the French don't usually say "Reverend", and it's "Pres", not "Gres"

    Sorry I couldn't help more,

    I hope someone else can help,

    Rose Bretz

    Thanks Rose.

    I've now looked up the word for priest in French and it is pretre, so maybe it is Pret or Pres in this record? I'm still not sure what the Rd stands for.

    @PatrickCox6

    Hi,

    I talked it over with someone, in French, we say "Révérend Père", which means "Reverend Father", we don't say "Reverend", in french, the title "Révérend",is used for a protestant minister and if he is Catholic, which I think he is, judging by the entry beneath his entry: "Soeur Cécile", "Soeur", is the title of a Catholic nun.

    I hope this helps you, if you need any more help with translations for your indexing, feel free to ask me😊

    Thanks so much Rose! So, what I thought was Gres and you said it was Pres, may be Père and the Rd may be Révérend?

    It's not all that important, as we don't index prefixes anyway, but I'm trying to make sense of the entries and these people's first names.

    It's making better sense to me now.

    Thanks again!

    Cheers, Patrick
