printing family name cards
Problems with printing “family name card”:
I am the administrator for a large family group on Family Search and have encountered numerous problems in printing and keeping track of the number of ordinance cards printed. I am an experienced FamilySearch user but have been very frustrated in trying to keep track of ordinance work on names that have been shared in my family group and even on my own temple ordinances ready list.
Let me explain: When a name is selected to print, the option defaults to print a family name card with ALL of the ordinances available for that person. I realize it is possible to “uncheck” the other available ordinances for that one person and print a card with the one desired ordinance, and I have instructed all members of my group to do so.
However, If someone does NOT select that option, and forgets to “UNCHECK” the other ordinances, the card prints with all ordinances available. Currently that one step is easy to bypass and people forget to “uncheck” the other ordinances, so all ordinances are mistakenly printed.
Once a card is printed with all ordinances available, it becomes difficult to determine the status and to know which cards need to be reprinted for incomplete ordinances since temples no longer return family name cards. If the ordinance shows" printed" on the list, there is no way to determine if that card needs to be reprinted—or if it already has been reprinted by a group user—and no way to know by whom it was re-printed. When managing a large group, with many different people printing ordinances, it is impossible to know who has printed what and if the card needs to be reprinted due to the problem described above, and therefore is difficult to find a way to avoid duplication.
One other challenge is when the filter option is used to print a name card to do an endowment for example, the results will show all people who have not had baptism, confirmation, initiatory, or endowment ordinances. Again, it is easy to mistakenly print a name card with all ordinances showing as needed, when only an endowment card is desired.
Suggestion to fix problem:
- I would suggest making it impossible to print more than one ordinance at a time per family name card. In the rare case when someone wants to go to the temple and do multiple ordinances on the same day for the same person, they could simply print separate cards for each ordinance.
- Please have only the ordinance that needs to be done next, IN PROPER ORDER, show up in a filter search.
- Also, if would be most helpful if a date and name of who printed that "ordinance" could be attached to the “printed” notice—-if not publicly, at least for administrators of groups and on your own temple ordinances ready list.
Thank you for your attention and time.

The whole setup for suggesting an idea is confusing and stupid. One should be able to select 'Suggestion', see other possible similar suggestions related to that title, and if one doesn't see an answer to their suggestion, then be able to open up a box to enter their suggestion. KEEP IT SIMPLE
Where there are multiple ordinances for one person, and one can't really pick the available ordinance(s) they can or want to do when selecting a person, one should at least be able to select how many cards they want printed for that person -- if there are three ordinances, and I want to print three cards (one for each ordinances, even if I may not do them all at once on the same day), next to each name, with a default of ONE, I want to mark how many cards I want to print for any given person, SO AS NOT TO WASTE TIME AND PAPER having to go back and forth to print a card for each ordinance. Otherwise, one is led to believe they will be able to use the same card for all ordinances, which isn't likely in most temples, even on the same day, since the temple usually keeps the card at the end of the ordinance.

Actually, every temple will let you use the same card for multiple ordinances on the same day. You just have to make the ordinance workers at each step aware of your desire to do more ordinances on that card that day. Then they'll make sure that the ordinances are recorded and the card returned to you for further ordinances.
Even if you're not doing more ordinances on the same day, you can request to have the card returned to you. You just have to ask.
