Dutch names
I am working on my first batch of Dutch Reformed Church Registers. After a surname the initials V. D. appear. Usually with batches you can see records before and after the one you are indexing to enable you to compare, but this project does not have that feature. Does anyone know if they would signify Van der or Van de? Thanks

It could indicate both. I just did a search in OpenArch, a major website for Netherlands and Belgium genealogy, and found 9 million records for "van der" versus 2.75 million for "van de".
My personal opinion is that should index "V.D." as "van d.". But you would need to wait for a staff member with responsibility for the project to give you an official instruction on how to proceed.

Hum, if it shows V D isn't V D what we are supposed to type? Unless it does say to enlarge abbreviations.

You would enter what's on the document. If it says V. D., then you wouldn't expand the abbreviation. You would type V. D. Check the field help for that surname field. It probably says this.
