Label icons
I love the new teardrop/marker icon which helps everyone find their local FHC but all of these icons need labelling so people know what they are!! A teardrop, a bell, the world, a question mark, a script box etc?? Yes, by clicking on them we can see easily and quickly what they are but for people not familiar with computers this just makes the whole process more difficult!
Please consider labelling these, thanks so much!

People can see what these mean by hovering the mouse pointer over them briefly so the label appears:
Having the labels available on demand like this saves a ton of space in the menu bar. There are basic computer skills such as checking for tool tips like this that really are things everyone just needs to be familiar with.

When I hover over the icons on my laptop when on the main FS page, nothing shows at all to indicate what they are? In the Community view, notifications and messages do show when hovering on them but nothing else, in fact the FHC locality icon doesn't even appear here! I do appreciate it saves space but am just suggesting that something could be added to make it easier for those unfamiliar with FS. As the Area Advisor for T&FH for London, Birmingham and Bristol missions and a Stake TFHC-FHC and Ward TFHC, I often get asked about what these mean and how to access things, can I please ask that this feedback be escalated to the engineers, as feedback used to be before community? Thanks so much!

For me, and I've tested 6 different browsers, the labels do not appear on hover on the main home page, but they do appear on all subsequent/interior pages.

Communities is a completely different program than FamilySearch written by a completely different company and it's got all sorts of interesting quirks. I wouldn't expect anything here to work exactly like it does in FamilySearch.
I do see what you mean, the old main home page does not have the tool tips.
However, this has been corrected on the new homepage:
I doubt the old page that will be vanishing in the relatively near future will be updated. The engineers have enough to do right now getting the new pages working right.
It's good you are explaining to your patrons how these tool tips work. It is such a fundamental part of using a computer. They even appear just using your desktop:
And the top menu bar of any computer is usually stuffed with icons that people just need to learn
which at least on my system don't even have tool tips. I do hope that as you are helping these patrons you actually give them the best answer they can get: "Why don't you click them and find out? You can't hurt anything." Being willing to click on everything on the FamilySearch website (but not in a scam e-mail) to see what it does is also a fundamental skill everyone needs.
We have been assured many times that all ideas posted here do get passed on to the correct engineering teams as appropriate.
I just can't see them adding labels. There just isn't room. All they could do would be to replace them with a single label such as "More" and hide them in a dropdown menu.

Another plea to label icons on the home page. And even where mouse hover over is activated, the label appears for only a fraction of a second.
Thank you.
