How can indexing errors on Film # 007994341be fixed?
I was very excited when I noticed that Film # 007994341 was now indexed. This is for Oscsanad, Torontal Hungary. I now had lots of research help suggestions. Unfortunately this film was indexed very badly for the birth records. In many cases the godparent's name have been used for the birth parents names. I have been manually editing the ones I am attaching to my family tree. How can this error for the entire film be corrected?

@PKapas Sorry that your question somehow got lost in the shuffle and not answered. Unfortunately, when an indexing project is completed, FamilySearch does not re-open it to correct errors made by our volunteer indexers. Please do edit those you find for your family. Hopefully others who find errors will do the same and improve the quality of the indexed information.

One would hope this would not be the response if every record (or even 80-90%) had / has been incorrectly "indexed" in this way. Surely if the project management here has really been so bad as implied, the whole collection should be re-indexed? Maybe this is not even a case of mistakes being made by some of the volunteers involved with this project, but perhaps a "post-indexing" issue, whereby names have been added to the wrong field after the indexing has been completed. However, I guess it could be a simple case of using volunteers who had no knowledge of Hungarian. Whatever the circumstances, @PKapas probably has every right to be very disappointed that this specific case appears not to have been passed back to the project manager concerned (or senior manager in "Indexing") for their assessment of the circumstances. At the very least, lessons need to be learned when a case like this arises.

Thank you @N Tychonievich and Paul W for your replies. Luckily this error only effects the birth records and it starts around 1830 through 1852. I wish I had kept track of where I first noticed it in the film. It seems to happen in small batches of 3 or more pages. I have been correcting those records I attach as sources to my family tree. The person or persons doing the indexing probably were not familiar with Hungarian. I have done some indexing in the past and have probably made my own share of errors. I always assumed at some point the batches would be checked for accuracy. I can easily find the starting point and make the corrections page by page. Personally I enjoy viewing the actual images, both indexed and non-indexed and have found more relatives this way than searching the records by name or place.
