1950 census review pages
when I open a page to review it sometimes starts with someone other than the head of household and I have been sending those back because I don't know how to go back to the previous page and I thought we weren't supposed to review unless there was a head of household with exception to institutions, I have been reviewing where at the bottom of the page it goes to the next page and asks if there is anyone that belongs in the previous page household. how do we handle where the household doesn't with the head? thank you

@Pennyrose I have found that sometimes Households at the top starting with a Head of family is not highlighted because another reviewer has done those and then exited the program. I do that sometimes because my laptop overheats when I work on the 1950 Census and can only finish so many before I have to exit.
In regards to reviewing families that start on other pages, I will hit the Report a Problem button on the top right if the names are highlighted and hit Other and then write that those names, like Wife or Child, should be included with a household on the previous sheet. You may have to do that for each person that belongs on the previous sheet. Then deselect those names and move on to the next household Head. Feel free to use Report a Problem button because there are a lot of Highlighting errors, especially on Vacant and Not at Home lines.

@Pennyrose and @Mary Rice Since the rules for dealing with "half families" at the top of a sheet have changed several times, it is no wonder that many of us are confused. The current process is to review those records as a household. There is no need to report this as a problem.

@Mary Rice This was an update that was provided by one of the project Administrators during an internal discussion. My only source is the notes that I took during that discussion. If it makes you feel more comfortable, you can continue as you have been doing. The last note that I see in any of the many threads that are addressing this issue is to index the records and report it as a problem.

@ME Doran Thanks. I did just find a June 10, 2022 Update where you posted the answer to go ahead and review all names, including those continued from another page. After reviewing many updates and comments from May forward I got a better understanding of how continuing households are/will be corrected by other review programs. I think at that date I hadn't even found most information on 1950 Census Updates. I have been Indexing/Reviewing for many years, but the 1950 Census Review is so different and with so many ongoing Updates that it is easy to get lost or behind on the instructions. Still, I love doing it and appreciate moderators and administrators whose responses to update and clarify our comments are so helpful. Some of the other responders are likewise more knowledgeable than I am and I appreciate their comments also.

Yes, the last I knew, we were to report it as a problem, click "Other," provide an explanation and then review the household fragment as usual . I usually write something like:
"The "household" identified by the AI is an incomplete household that is a continuation of the last household on the previous image/Census page."
This highlights a weakness in using the Community comments/questions and responses as a way to answer FAQs. It is an onerous task to comb through them to find the latest guidance on a given issue/queston. And, of course, we're not privy to Administrative meetings. In hindsight - it seems to me that there should have been a central FAQ section that was actively updated and kept current by the administrative staff.

I no longer review those households. I skipped them and check there is nothing wrong with the household. In the small county, I'm reviewing, I usually get the previous page for review a few pages later. Save me time not having to review that partial household twice.

For all in this thread, here is the knowledge article which can be found in the Help Center:
You are all doing a great job just the way you have been going, but no need to report it further. Also, it never hurts to report when you feel it is necessary!
At the top of each page in the review process you will see a blue circle with a question mark. If you click on that and scroll a little you will see articles specific to the 1950 census. Or you can also click on the Help Center below that and put in the search field 1950 and it will bring up articles. They try to keep these articles current.
I sure hope this has helped! I feel bad that you have possibly felt slighted.
Thank you so much for your discussion!
