Record Type? South Africa Parish Records

I am trying to index a Parish Index of Child names. [M3GM-G31]

The child's Birth Date appears in the far right column and a later date appears in the far left column. The dates on the left are mostly under 1 year later than those on the right, but there are a few that are from 11 to 21 years later. Parent first names are also indicated on each line with the child. There are no Titles nor column headings. None of the Reference Images indicate type of Index.

I need advice if this is a Baptism Index or a Burial/Death Index. I am leaning towards Burial/Death, but Adult baptisms do occur also.

I checked on the record file for this batch.

This group of records is entitled Baptism index records.

    • I note the T at the top of the page with the surnames listed down the left side of the page all beginning with T, first surname Titus. The instructions say :Indexes are images with only a name and reference information, such as page or volume number, with no other information, such as dates, available. Indexes should be marked as No, No Extractable Data.

This index does have dates so I assume it should be indexed

I agree with you the columns would be:

baptism date... surname...childs name .... parents first names...birth date

This is only my opinion and I am not familiar with these records so you might want to wait for a second opinion.

    Hope that helps
