How do create a family tree that is not mine?

I often research the graves in the local graveyard. Would it be possible to start trees for them?

How do I do it without involving my own tree, keeping everything separate?

    @Kathryn Archibald

To add persons not related to you in the Tree use the Recents > Add Unconnected Person option.

    However may I suggest:

Please do not add persons that already exist in the Tree. You could attach a picture of their headstone if you wish (that could be helpful if a picture of their headstone is not already attached). Or better yet you could create the graveyard location in FamilySearch Places:

    Good luck!

so to summarize all those above

indeed you CAN add someone to Familytree that is not related to yourself using the instructions provided.

BUT - Please always check FIRST to see that they arent already in Family tree - a global collaborative database that already has billions of person records - and chances are already has a large portion of those people you are finding in the cemetery. We are just pointing out - that we dont want you to enter a duplicate record if it already exists.

to see if someone is already in Family Tree check this link:

    https://www.familysearch.org/search/tree/name

but as you do these searches - be sure and try different approaches

such as using both maiden name and married name,

try searches with birth dates and death dates and with spouse name or parent names - also help.

try multiple approaches before you assume the person is not in Familytree.

But truth is a very large portion of people in most US cemeteries - prior to like 1900 are already in Familytree - you just need to find them.

If you are planning to document the people in the local graveyard in the FamilySearch tree, it is all one tree. There is no "my tree" or "your tree" - it is one tree for all of humanity.

@Kathryn Archibald, you can add people who aren't related to you using the "Add Unconnected Person" link at the bottom of the Recents menu.

    Kathryn,

    Shortcut:

In “Find” add their name only. If you know the person’s spouse the easiest (and fastest) way to find out if someone is already added to the Tree is to click “more options” and just add the name of their spouse.
