Why can I no longer attach and detach sources from records in my family tree?
I have already turned off cookies. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Google Chrome. I use Chrome as my browser. I have rebooted my computer. The problem is still there. What else can I do?

You turned "off cookies?" Cookies are required to be "on" for FS. You can "clean" or "clear" cookies from your browser (which may be needed sometimes) but FS requires that you allow cookies.
As someone else noted, the problem is in your browser or computer settings. I'd bet it is your browser settings.

By accident, I just came across this Knowledge Article in FamilySearch:
.
I can't see top-level menu or other parts of FamilySearch
.
Turning off an ad blocker or similar program was something that I was NOT aware of.
.
I hope this might help.

Could you tell me exactly what it is you are trying to do and how you are doing it? I just reviewed and attached a record from a record hint to an ancestor as a source for him, his wife, and two daughters with no problem.

Thank you for responding so quickly. I'm trying to attach and detach sources to and from my Family Search tree records as I have for over 5 years. Suddenly, when I click on "Compair" , nothing happens. Also, when a record appears with a triangle and an exclamation point in it, when I click on it, nothing happens.

The problem can't be a computer problem because I regularly use 4 different computers while I'm working on my family tree. One computer is at the Senior Center,. One is at the local lirary and I have two computers at home. They all do the same thing. The problem MUST be with my Family Search account. Could I be penalized for some inadvertent violation of some rule? What could be the reason why?

This sounds like a problem with a browser or computer you are using. I tried this and can attach and detach. If you provide a specific PID and Source you want to attach maybe someone else can verify. There are not user rights that can be revoked for Sources.

True, for a long time I could not use FamilySearch with Apple's Safari. I had to use Chrome. Then for FamilySearch Community I had to resort to Firefox. Only after my operating system was updated did all work well on Safari.

I've been having the exact same problem, and it just started a few days ago. What has changed? I've been using the site for a long time, and only recently has it refused to attach a source -- either from Research Help on the person's page, or from a "hit" on the search link from the person's page. It goes to the page, but nothing works.

Please rest assured you are not being penalized because of some violation
😆
I agree the problem doesn't seem to be a problem with your computer as you state. and I doubt its your account. I imagine though it is related to a very specific and unique data related scenario.
Lets see what some of the FS employess/admins say.

Dennis: I just wrote in a bit ago with the same problem. On live chat they suggested I clear browsing history and check cookies. Done, but still same problem. I've used the site for a long time, and this only began a few days ago. Weird! (my browser is Chrome) Jo

those are all just the standard "canned answers" they give everyone . . ..
I am guessing there was indeed some change to the system
you should tell them to escalate this to supervisor.
But like I said - I think it is a combination of some change to the system a well a something unique to the person yo are updating.
if you try other people - do you get the same error.
Try different things to see which thing avoids the issue.

Sorry I'm slow to reply -- cooking supper. It is consistent with all the people on the tree. I can go into sources and do it all from scratch (like add a findagrave memorial or something like that, manually cut and paste in the url, etc, and it will accept it in the sources. But nothing will go through from either the Research Hints on any one person's page, nor from the Search Records link to familysearch "hits" from that person's page. It is only recent that it does this, and it is for every one that I try,, consistently. very frustrating. Jo

Example: Russell Day: KFSZ-28G, Research Hints has Nebraska Marriages, 1855-1995 . If I click on it, it goes to the source linking page as normal. But there is no compare symbol for Russell Day (w/the little paper clip icon). Wife Martha Barnum does have the icon, but when I click on it, it just disappears and nothing happens. When there is someone on the Others On this Record (like a census w/ family), they will not move from the bottom section to match up with the tree. Odd. Jo

I just tried using Bing to go there and it DOES work now (it wouldn't before), using Bing. It may be temporary, but it doesn't find anything linking from the Search Records familysearch. It keeps saying to check back later. Whereas using Google Chrome it finds all sorts of things, it just won't let me attach them. I definitely prefer Chrome too. Hmm. Jo

One remote possibility is that the "Zoom" setting for your "Browser" is greater than 100%.
.
If the "Zoom" setting for your "Browser" is greater than 100%; then, try reducing that "Zoom" setting to 100%.
.
.
I hope this helps.

ps: Otherwise, it may be your "Monitor" (ie. Size) and "Resolution".

I just tried your Zoom setting suggestion, but unfortunately it did not change anything about how it works. I think Chrome and Familysearch must be feuding in some kind of computer code or something. About a year ago, Chrome and ancestry were giving me trouble, but only ancestry, no other websites. I had to eventually go into ancestry in another browser or in the incognito mode. Then eventually whatever the glitch was, it was fixed. It hasn't happened since then. Again, it wasn't just me, as there were others making the same comment online. Makes me wonder! Thank you Brett.
