Original names for former Volga German Villages
It would be very nice if there's an option to tag the former Volga German Villages with the original names, because they are the common names on Volga Germans's resources. Furthermore it is fair too, because it is how the founders and villagers named the places.
The russian names, instead, were impposed and it was bad to german people. I am not saying to change the russian names, but offer the two options.
For example: I could choose between Obermonjou (german) and Krivovka (russian) on standardized places.
It could not be limited to Volga Germans, but expanded to other russian-germans too.

If you check FamilySearch Places for Krivovka:
You will see several Alternate Name variations for Obermonjou. You can submit documentation to the Places team if you know a time frame for when Places went by which name.
I agree - if the time frame cannot solve the issue for selecting which name to display - it would be nice if Alternate Names were visible/able to be selected.

To expand a little on this topic, since the name you want to use, Obermonjou, is present in the Places database as an alternate name for Krivovka, it is very easy to use it in Family Tree. Just type it in and it will automatically link to the proper map location, that is, the correct standard. After you enter the place name in Family Tree, the editing box will look like this:
This is a completely correct place name entry in Family Tree.
