Center consultant question
My husband and I are new Center (directors?) Our Center user manual asks to have each center consultant to be set apart as Temple and Family History Center Consultants by their own Bishop. I cannot find anything in the handbook about this. Any Help?

Hi
There is quite a bit of information in the handbook relating to temple and family History Consultants and their work in the Family History Centres but it can also be a little confusing.
Section 25.3.5 is about Stake Temple and Family History Consultants, and under the section on callings (30.8.3) they are to be set apart by or under the direction of the Stake Presidency as they come under the classification of 'Other Stake Callings'. Amongst their responsibilities, they can be asked to preside over one of the stake's Family History Centres, as you have.
Each of these Family History Centres is generally staffed by Ward Temple and Family History Consultants, who will have been called and set apart by, or under the direction of their Bishop (30.8.1).
I've attached a Knowledge Article which may help you with some of your new responsibilities, but I suspect that your manual may already cover some of them.

All the best in your new assignments, and hope that this clarifies things a little.
Kind regards,

Thank you for your answer but it still does not answer the question of the volunteers at the Family History Center who are not called as Stake or Ward consultants. They are just volunteers. Who takes care of them?

Hi,
If a person is called to serve in the Family History Centre, then they would be set apart under the direction of their Bishop. However, if someone just volunteers to help out either on an ad-hoc or regular basis, then they would not need to be set apart.
Kind regards,
Barry
