It depends on what the field helps says. To access the field helps, click on the purple question mark that appears when you click on the father's given and surname field.

    Usually the field helps say:

If given names were not recorded or were written as a variation of the word "unknown," press Ctrl+B to mark this field blank.

If surnames were not recorded or were written as a variation of the word "unknown," press Ctrl+B to mark this field blank.

P N C would qualify as a variation of the word "unknown" and thus the field would be rendered blank using Ctrl + B
