When someone creates and account but is already in the Tree

When I created my account, I included my wife and children in my Family Tree. Now, my wife created her own account, but FamilySearch will not recognize her as my wife and gave her a separate ID. We tried to link her with her parents, who I have already placed in the family tree, but it still won't recognize her even though she is already their daughter. We tried to merge her new ID with her ID in my family tree using "merge by ID", but it would not allow it. I assume this has to do with her still being a living person, and since I created her in my family tree, no one else can do anything with that ID because she is still a living person. But how does my wife create her own account, using the ID that I have already created?

    Yes - you are correct in thinking that the issue is that she is still living. Any people you add to your tree who are alive are given ID numbers that cannot be accessed by anyone else. If those people set up new accounts, and add the same living people, they will all be given different ID numbers accessible only to that account holder. These records cannot be merged. Thus your wife will need to create all living people that you may have created separately. Once you are back to deceased persons, such as grandparents, then it is possible for her to connect to any you may have created, Once a person dies that is on both your trees, the death will need to be recorded on each record separately. At that point both records will be visible to both account holders and they can be merged.

    Hope this makes the position clearer.

    Hi there, I hope you were able to figure out how to fix that.

    I kinder have the same issue. I created a family tree and added up my sibling and all that, after wards my brother also created a separate family account and tree, but he's not a member of the church though, he added up all our deceased parents using the ID number that were given to them when I created my tree and they are now on his tree, but still him doesn't show all of his siblings and the rest of the family that I created.

    How does he get connected to the same person I created on my tree?

    @Asiimwe Derrick

    The short answer is that he cannot link the record of himself that he created to the record of him that you created for the reasons I gave in my original reply. Equally he cannot see any living people that you have created on your tree. He can only see deceased people that you have created.

    So I should be able to give access to my living persons to other family members so we don't create these duplication problems. Instead of "nobody" can access the living people on my account, I should be able to specifically designate certain people, like other family members, to have access to everyone in my account including living people. How can we make a change like that happen?

    Sorry for the slow reply. You could post this to Suggest an idea. I suspect that it would be a nightmare to implement!

    I bet you can combine your family information on Ancestry.

    Family Search is already working on this problem and it may or may not be resolved. Until then each person that is still living must be entered in different trees with different id's.
