Once a post has been "posted" on the Community, it seems to remain there forever. It is also searchable on the internet. Please create an "edit" and "delete" option for the posts so a person can edit or delete their own posts. Thank you.

This is crucial to our safety and privacy.

You have about 4 hours after posting to edit your post. This was a change made a few months ago; before that, people could edit (though not delete) their posts indefinitely, whether there had been any response to them or not. This resulted in many cases where someone came and blanked a post, removing the antecedents or context for an entire ensuing discussion. I think that's why they set the time limit.

I believe moderators are not affected by the time limit, so if you accidentally posted something that shouldn't be online and didn't notice in time, you can try flagging your post for moderator attention. But in general, you should always treat everything that you post anywhere online as potentially permanent: even if you delete it in its primary location, it may have been copied (backed up, archived) somewhere else, so it will never entirely go away.

Thank you for your reply. I understand that removing posts can mess up the context so others can no longer learn from the questions asked. But a guest is concerned that she can be found on the internet now by just doing a search for her name and now she can be found because of her post.

It would be nice if there were a place to request that a post be removed. I have used the "Suggest an Idea" feature to suggest this.

Thanks again. I hope something can be done to give us a little more control over our posts.
