Missouri began statewide recording of deaths in 1910. There are some pre-1910 records on the Missouri Secretary of State website - https://s1.sos.mo.gov/records/archives/archivesdb/birthdeath/

Question: Ideas and optional "death" date and location source databases to search when a findagrave.com memorial has no headstone photo and the death date conflicts with other sources (ancestor enumerated in 1800 census yet non sourced Findagrave.com memorial says death is "1878")?
- ideas for research:
Newspapers.com for obituary, USGenweb cemetery listing link (in rare chance cemetery was "walked" and has different date), Ancestry.com public user trees for your ancestor AND that have a source linked to the death fact.
- ideas for Family Tree entry if no reliable proof or alternate death date can be found:
Enter "After 1877" in the death vital field, and in the reason field maybe something similar to "Viewed findagrave.com memorial "no. xxxxxxxxxx" viewed "date xxxx" for "name xxxx" with no headstone photo present, shows death date as "1878" but the 1880 census believed to be for this family shows "person name xxxx" was living and enumerated on June 1, 1880....location, etc."
