A counter for standardizing names

I like the new volunteer service opportunity to standardize the place names. But I think it would be nice if possible to have a log of how many of those I’ve done.

WHY, is such necessary?

WHAT purpose would such provide/serve?

WHAT is the need for such?

Can you please help me understand, the need for what you suggest.
