    Hi.

    It seems that the issue is with his mother's record, Nina Richards KWCV-5FV, which for some reason is marked 'Read Only'. As both versions of Orin Richards Woodbury show the same mother, this is preventing the merge.

    Sorry that I can't help further.

    Kind regards,

    Barry

    Barry simply restated the problem with implied that nothing can be done. However, my appeal is to the familysearch admin group that should be able to resolve this problem as I have requested.

    thanks

    I believe some moderators are able to escalate such matters to the specialist team that is responsible for categorising read-only records. Perhaps Barry might be able to make further enquiries to see if your issue can be examined. I am sure that some currently locked records could be made open-edit, if it is found there are no sensitive issues involved. Hopefully, you will at least be able to get this case reviewed. After all, why is the other ID not also read-only?

    Update to the above - I have been successful in attaching sources to Frank Orin Woodbury KWCV-5FJ, then discovered I could not attach a 1925 census source to Nina Richards KWCV-5FV, she being the read-only individual, not Orin Richards himself. So, if possible, it is the reason Nina is read-only is what is in need of investigation.

    The read only part must first be removed before any merging can happen.

    The merging function comes and goes. Sometimes it works, sometimes it gives you the error, reload page messages. Hours or days later, the same merge does work.

    I hope what Cheryl Viering states isn't true. I would hope that the merging process isn't "random".

    @melville,dl

    In my ten years of using Family Tree I have never experienced any "random" problems. Possibly the only general problems with the merge function has relate to a temporary glitch.

    As has been established, your case is specifically related to a read-only ID preventing the action. As notified, WJRoth has passed this issue for investigation.

    When the merge problem starts, it stays broken. No matter how many times I retry. No matter how many other people I try to merge. Doing the exact same thing hours or days later, the merge works. This has been happening for a few months, since the last big update that created so many errors.

    I quit worrying about it. I just make some sort of comment so that others can see that I tried to merge, and move on.
