What is the source of the ethnicity identification on FamilySearch Birth records?

The birth record of one of my ancestors shows his ethnicity as "Canadian," but the copy of the document included with that record does not include that information. Where did FamilySearch find that information? See the following link for the record in question.

This is a total guess, but given that this is an older index (the Wiki page for the collection was created in 2009), I think it has been run through multiple automated updates intended to bring it in line with then-current database structures, and one of them managed to change "ca." for "caucasian" into "Canadian".

But whatever its origins, you can simply ignore that field. Remember that the index is not the data; it is merely a finding aid for the data.
