I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
[ And, I happen to be a Member of the Church ... ]
Just in passing ...
Many records, that were once available, in 'FamilySearch, are becoming "Unavailable" ...
[ The availably/accessibility, of "Records", in 'FamilySearch' ... come and go ... on a regular basis ... ]
[ ie. There one day, gone the next ... ]
There are MANY reasons for such ...
[ Which, I will not go into here ... ]
And, in many cases, it matters NOT, if one is a Member of the the Church or not.
As an aside ...
Just in case, you were not aware ...
The "1881, Census of Scotland", was also "Indexed", by/through 'FamilySearch' (ie. the Church).
There's a FREE "Version", of the "1881, Census of Scotland", available to ALL, on the "ScotlandsPeople" Website.
[ The "ScotlandsPeople" Website, is maintained, by the Government of Scotland ... ]
It is FREE, to "Register"; &, become a User/Patron, of; &, use, the "Indexes", on the "ScotlandsPeople" Website.
The (LDS) "Index", of the "1881, Census of Scotland", on the "ScotlandsPeople" Website, is accessible to all.
ScotlndsPeople Website: https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
Good Luck.
I hope, that this may help/assist, somewhat.

Sorry Brett, I'm not clear what your asking of me here:
Question: Have you, had a 'look', in the 'FamilySearch' "Catalogue", regarding availability/accessibility?

I had a look in the Catalog for a random parish (Abdie, number 400) (https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/637207?availability=Family%20History%20Library)
The images for the 1881 census were accessible only at FHCs and Affiliate Libraries. The index was not working.

@BillSmith53 If you see a microfilm symbol (indicating the record is only available on microfilm or microfiche), then you can only access the records from the FHL in Salt Lake City. The Family History Centers (FHCs) (i.e. what you call a "church resource center") around the world do not (in general) have access to these.
If you see a camera/key symbol, then click on it to find out how you can view the records.

In the past, there have been issues/changes with the Scottish census. In particular, non-members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints don't have full access to it. So if that applies to you, that may be the reason for the error messages you are seeing.

Thank you Brett, I am aware of the index on Scotland's People but wanted to see either the image or a summary of who is in the household. That as far as I know can only be viewed by paying for credits on the site.
If links are no longer available, it would be better IMO if Family Search disabled them rather than giving a 404 message.

A 404 error message indicates the URL link is not valid- therefore the pages must have already been disabled.

Yes A van Helsdingen, agreed, but someone needs to disable the link that takes us to that 404 page.

Apart from the availably/accessibility, of "Records", in 'FamilySearch', changing ...
'FamilySearch', is also working on changes, to the 'FamilySearch' "Catalogue"; which, is causing such problems
[ The latter is quite a massive effort, taking much time to complete ... ]
There can be a number of reasons, for such ERROR 'Messages'; including, "Server" problems.
[ Sometimes, the WRONG "Error" 'Message', is displayed ... we all make mistakes ... ]
Question: Have you, had a 'look', in the 'FamilySearch' "Catalogue", regarding availability/accessibility?
[ ie. Any "Restrictions", for a particular "index"/"Image" (eg. "Film Reel" Icon; or, "Camera" with "Key" Icon ... ]
And ...
'Yes', to "View" any "Images", in "ScotlandsPeople", one must "Buy", the "Credits" ...
Not much FREE, these days; except, of course, 'FamilySearch ...

Bill
ie. Search the 'FamilySearch' "Catalogue", for either, the Census; or, a particular FHL Film/DGS number, if known

I see, thanks. Yes I've looked and it looks like the 1881 census is only available on microfiche. I know this could be accessed through the church's resource centre in my city (which unfortunately is quite far away from me).
