Suffix Addition

I have just started helping with the indexing of other records. There IS a location for PREFIXES but nothing for SUFFIX (ie: Jr). If a record specifies a Jr why would we not want it to be part of the indexing?

that is my question too, in the instruction for given name it says do not include suffix and prefix, but it does not say so in the last name field. do we just ignore the suffix? ( jr or sometimes sr)

Keep in mind that you are indexing, not transcribing. An index is a finding aid: it contains only a part of the information from the record. Indexing projects try to find a balance between making records easy to locate/identify and the time and effort needed to produce the index.
