Just in passing ...
I am NOT having any problems/issues with " ... document search and hint attachment ..."
And, I am, certainly NOT, having to use an "... incognito window ...".
Just thinking out aloud ...
Your problem/issue, MAY be due, to either, "Browser"; or, "Operating System"; or, BOTH, that you are using ...
I use, the "Browser(s)" of, "Google' "Chrome'; plus, 'Mozilla' "FireFox"; and, even, 'Microsoft' "Edge", all with the "Operating System" of "Windows10"; and, all using the LATEST Version, of each.
As an aside ...
Have you tried, the "Oldie"; but, STIIL, often, a "Goodie" ...
ie. "Clearing", the "Cookies"; and, the "Cache", of you "Browser" ...
..... [ and, even, to the extent, of your "Browsing History" ... ]
It does not always work; but, more often than not, it does ...

In addition to Brett's advice about browser history (cache and cookies), have you recently installed a browser add-on or changed a setting somewhere? Things like ad blockers can render FamilySearch's interface unusable, because they block the pop-up windows that FS's programmers love so much.
