Is there a standard for entering 'Residence' info.
I have come across someone making hundreds, of seemingly pointless changes.
eg. Previous entry: 6 Bridge Street, Independence, Washington, Pennsylvania, United States. Standardised to: Independence, Washington, Pennsylvania, United States (so it's not as though standardisation was a problem)
Changed to: Independence, Washington, Pennsylvania, United States. Description of Residence: 6 Bridge Street
Their changes are not 'wrong' so I have neither the time nor the inclination to reverse them. I'm curious if there is some format guidance that I'm unaware of, or is this just someone with too much time on their hands?

Furthermore ...
Here is a "Knowledge Article", in 'FamilySearch':
How do I enter dates and places into Family Tree?
Where, it states, among other things:
Quote
------------------
- If you do not see a map location icon next to the name of a place, the place-name might still be standardized. It may simply contain a more specific geographical location than the standard.
Note: Never delete correct place name information just to get a map location icon to display. Map location icons are not required and have no bearing on the correctness of the place name displayed.
------------------
And ...
In Family Tree, what do the map pin icons and exclamation points by place-names mean?
Where, it states, among other things:
Quote
------------------
- Pin: The place is standardized. The user-entered place-name is identical to the standard.
- No pin: The place is standardized. The user-entered place-name contains additional information, has used a historically correct alternate spelling, or is in a different format than the standard. The user has attached a standard with less information or with a different alternate spelling to the user entered place-name.
------------------
I hope, that this may help/assist, somewhat.
[ And, so that, you may "Quote" such, to the OTHER User/Parton, if you decide to do so ... ]

I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Just in passing ...
It sounds like ...
One, of those (Unfortunate) Users/Patrons, who believes, that ALL 'Places', MUST have a ... "Map Pin" ...
Regardless, that such is "Totally" UNNRCESSARY ...
Short Answer: 'No'.
"Technically", there is NO standard for entering 'Place' Name ...
[ ie. Each User/patron can 'Choose" their OWN 'Style', of a 'Place' Name - as long as, it is "Standardised" ... ]
Plus ...
IF, one is NOT going to bother, "Restoring", the "Full" (and, MORE "Correct") 'Place' Name ...
[ ie. Actual the EXACT "Location" Address - eg. House/Build Name, Number; and, Street Name ... ]; and,
Trying to "Educate", the 'wayward' User/Patron, who is "Removing", the "Full" (and, MORE "Correct") 'Place' Name; THEN, such is life.
As an aside ,,,
Just being realistic ...
In such cases ...
Unfortunately ...
Like it or not ...
It is "Survival", of the MOST Persistent ...
Nothing more, nothing less ...
Sorry ...
Good Luck ...
Just my thoughts.
I know, that this certainly does not help/assist; but, I hope, that this may provide you with, some additional, insight; and, perspective; and, another avenue to pursue.

Thanks Brett, that's exactly the information I was looking for.
"... the 'wayward' User/Patron, who is "Removing", the "Full" (and, MORE "Correct") 'Place' Name ..." They're not really removing the information, just moving it to the "Description of Residence" field, hence my disinclination to waste my time moving it back. If they were deleting it I would probably feel differently.

I am just glad, that I can help/assist ...
Whereas ...
Of course, 'semantics' ...
But ...
Unlike you ...
I feel differently ...
My view, would be, in fact, that they ARE actually "Removing", the "Full" (and, MORE "Correct") 'Place' Name ...
[ In fact, "Ruining", a PERFECTLY, acceptable; and, valid, 'Place' Name ... ]
And, "Relegating" such, to the "Description of Residence"; in which, I prefer to place the "Purpose"/"Reason" ...
eg. Birth/Marriage/Death Reg.; Census; Probate; National Registration Act, 1939, England & Wales, World War II; etc
Good Luck.

The person is adding some extra polish to the profiles. That is very nice; most contributors don't bother or don't know.
Possibly there is an interesting reason for the polishing. A research project, for example: community history, a sociodemographic study of a family or cultural group, etc.
