On the example Muster Roll are the military branch and unit mixed up?
Sooo, Is this actually how we're supposed to record it for indexing? Because I'm 99% sure the military branch is the Army, and the unit is Company D, sixth infantry
Am I missing something? Should I record the military branch as Navy, Army, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard, or should I do it the way the example is showing? Why?

Please share your batch. It is the third icon to the right on your toolbar.
According to the Field Help:
If the military branch was not recorded or was written as a variation of the word "unknown," choose Not Given from the drop-down list.
Unless your page, or any of the reference pages, state some variation of "Army" , you will choose Not Given. We are to not make assumptions on what branch it is.

@alisa4’s question regards this Project: US, Missouri, St. Louis—Military Records, 1916–1939
From the Military Service Branch Field Help (purple question mark).
From the first indexing example in What to Index?
So, yes, @alisa4 is correct, and the example is wrong and should be deleted or corrected.
Moderators, please report this.
Good catch, @alisa4

The example says Army, but @alisa4 says she's 99% certain the Branch is Army, going on the Company & Infantry information. I thought we were not to assume information and give it as Not Given.
This is my current batch. None of the reference images give a Military Branch.
Even though no Branch was given, I'm supposed to assume that the Branch is Army based on this information? If so, the Missouri PI is maddening.

The point Alisa and others have been trying to make is that the example in the project instruction example is wrong, but, the field helps are correct. They have incorrectly indexed the Military Unit and the Military Branch on the example.
A branch is Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, or Not Given.
A Military UNIT is Company G, 9th Infantry.
The example correctly shows Army outlined on the record and incorrectly indexed as Unit. But, if the word Army is not on your image, then you would not assume Army, @erutherford
This was brought up early last week and I then suggested that the moderators needed to address it with the project managers. No one has responded if that happened or not. This is why the community forum is not as helpful or as quick to make changes as it could be. 😥

Ah, gotcha, @Melissa S Himes. Just checked the example and it's still the same and @John Empoliti's question regarding the preparer of the roll hasn't been addressed, either.
