When there is just a F or M in the given name column, does that indicate it is a female and male. Would I leave the given name blank and put the F or M in the sex?

yes, you are correct. the F or M indicates sex. you would use Ctrl-B for Given name, and enter male or female, depending on the letter. I have noticed that on some, the given name is handwritten in later on the document, which is nice for researchers.

Please be sure you only put the sex if it indicates it on the record. Not every record will designate the sex. usually it will only indicate the sex if it is a stillborn birth and say something like stillborn female or male. Otherwise you just mark the sex as blank.

Sorry that didn't come out quite right. Didn't mean it the way it sounds after I posted it. I'm sure you are already following the correct instructions by now anyway. I apologize to you both.
