2 week stay signed in
On Church member accounts, perhaps there could be some kind of test we could pass or promise to only sign in on our personal devices, not public so we can stay signed in for 2 weeks instead of 20 minutes. (Kind of like TSA Precheck. You can fingerprint me, too if you want!) It is very inconvenient and I'm on my laptop virtually all day every day but I do have several tabs open depending on what I'm doing, checking out Find A Grave, old newspapers, Ancestry, etc.

I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
[ And, I happen to be a Member of the Church ... ]
Just in passing ...
You are not alone ...
We have ALL be 'caught out', with the "Time Out", in 'FamilySearch' ...
NO ONE is immune ...
And, sometimes, no matter how vigilant one is ...
At least, more often than not, one is NOT required, to "Sign (Back) In", with one's FULL credentials.
I am sorry ...
Regardless, if a User/Patron, is or is not, a Member of the Church ...
'NO'; 'No'; 'no', ...
NO "Test" should be required; as, we, are; and, should NOT be, "Required" to in "Signed In" in for x2 Weeks.
And, NOT, even, on one's "Personal" Devices ...
Look, I ALWAYS use, the stay "Signed In" for the x2 Weeks; but, such should NOT be a 'Requirement'; or, 'Test'.
It appears, that ...
You seem to "misunderstand", the nature; and, purpose, of the "Time-Out", in 'FamilySearch'.
The, nature; and, purpose, of the "Time Out", is twofold:
(1) One for "Security"; and,
(2) To ENSURE, that the "System", is NOT 'held to ransom', by too MANY Users/Patrons, "Burdening" the "System"; when, they are NOT actually using the "System", for ANY length of time.
Now ...
That Said ...
Seriously, in relation, to "Security", although NOT as problematic; as, "Public" Computers; even, one's "Personal" Devices, whether that be a, Computer; Laptop; Tablet; Phone; or, the like, CAN, sometimes, be used (or, misused) by OTHERS. And, even, when we are nearby, in the vicinity. I have 'seen' such occur - luckily, in those instances, NOT for 'nefarious' purposes.
So ...
That Said ...
Like it or not ...
The "Time Out", IS "Required", in 'FamilySearch'; EVEN, for OUR "Personal" Devices ...
[ And, that is regardless, if a User/Patron, is a Member of the Church; or, not ... ]
Whereas ...
Too MANY Users/Patrons, "Burdening" the "System"; when, they are NOT actually using the "System", for ANY length of time, would SLOW the "System" down to a CRAWL, making the "System" utterly useless.
The "System", is ALREADY somewhat burdened, to some degree, when MANY Users/Patrons, are 'On-Line', ALL at once.
Especially, during "Week-Ends" (ie. Saturday; and, Sunday), in "North America" (their "Local" Time).
Please be aware; and, advised, that ...
When, one is "Logged In"; and, using 'FamilySearch', one is 'Stressing" (ie. placing pressure) on the "System".
'FamilySearch', is used by, MANY; Many; many, Users/Patrons, from ALL around the World ...
[ ie. In fact, from the ALL the many, "Countries"; and, "Unions", thought, the Work ... ]
To RELEASE, the "System", from ANY "Burden", of too MANY Users/Patrons, placing STRESS on the "System", at any given 'Time' ...
When, a User/Patron, is NOT, actually been "Physically" using the "System", for a "Period" of 'Time", currently "Set" at 20 Minutes, the User's/Patron's "Hold" (or, "Load"), on the "System" is AUTOMATICALLY released; whereby, doing such, REDUCES, the "Burden", on the "System", at any given time.
Unfortunately ...
Like it or not ...
The "Time-Out", in the "System", of 'FamilySearch', IS "Required", for ALL Users/Patrons, on ALL "Devices" ...
REGARDLESS, if a User/Patron, is a Member of the Church; or, not ...
And, More IMPORTANTLY, regardless, if one is ONLY using one's "Personal" Devices ...
Just my thoughts.
I know, that this certainly does not help/assist; but, I hope, that this may provide you with, some additional, insight; and, perspective.

I really don't see why there appears to be no problem with some websites in providing warnings you are about to be timed-out, or have been logged out, but with FamilySearch (and, I admit, many other websites that I use) we are caught-out time and time again, by adding details that are completely lost as soon as we try to "Save".
There seems no excuse that "FamilySearch" does not choose to at least try to tackle this problem, even though I appreciate no action will provide a perfect solution.
(I have made this complaint to other website administrators, too: "If others can handle this issue better, why can't You?!")
