Date range incorrect
The Record Set labelled “Probate proceedings, 1867–1965” for New York Surrogate files contains an index to case file numbers 1–5445, and films 398052–404436, containing cases 1–4120. The label on FamilySearch is incorrect. The index contains file numbers for estates as early as 1813. See for example, Ephraim Willard who died in Trenton in about 8 April 1813, case file no. 4826. While FamilySearch films only go through case no. 4120, the file can be viewed on the online file system for New York’s 5th district (http://surrogate5th.courts.state.ny.us/onbase )
