Recently I found some family names. There were duplicates. After going through the merging process,
connecting with a family member. The only source listed was Family Search and the year. Does Family Search contribute names after indexing, review and arbitration are completed? How does it work?

I am certainly no expert; but, in answer to you questions ...
.
Some (many) of the "Deceased" individuals/persons in "Family Tree" came from its predecessor "New.FamilySearch" and beyond ...
.
Some (many) came to being from "Records Extraction" programme through "indexed" records.
.
They were NOT created in the "System" by individual Users/Patrons; but, were created by the "System"; hence, there is NO direct link to any User/Patron.
.
Certainly not all; but, some (many).
.
I hope this helps.

Good to know. I am just getting started in this. I could see myself doing the thing you just said, so I will watch for that anytime I merge. Thank you.

It's a while since you asked this question as to whether FamilySearch itself adds information to the tree. Here is an article from the FamilySearch Help Centre which will help you understand why you sometimes see FamilySearch as a contributor in the change log.
