Is it possible to delete another user's sources?

I ask only because the record I am working with lists a few sources multiple times, and I'm wondering if I can't clean that up.

Thank you.

Thank you for the question. Yes you are able to delete source.

    1. Click on sources from your top line after Time Line
    2. Click View Sources
    3. You will see "detach"
    4. Source should be gone

    Hope this helps.

    @Celinda Bolen

    Celinda

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    Just in passing ...

    I just had a 'quick' look, at Eleazer W S JENKS ( 2MR6-TP5 ); and, his associated, "Sources" ...

Short Answer: Please DO NOT ...

As far as, I could 'see' (ie. Checking the URLs), NONE of the "Sources" were EXACT "Duplicates".

'Yes', some SIMILAR "Sources", for the same "Event"; but, that is O.K.

    The problem/issue, will be ...

IF, you do so; THEN, those "Sources", from 'FamilySearch', that you "Detach", WILL only come back; as, "Record Hints" ...

ie. NEEDING to be reattached ...

    And, even, worse ...

IF, you (or, anyone) then "Dismisses" those "Record Hints"; being, the Sources", that you "Detached"; as, "Not A Match"; THEN, that will RUIN, the integrity, of the "Hinting System" ...

    So ...

    That Said ...

    Again ...

'NO'; 'No'; 'no' ... DO NOT "Detach", the SIMILAR (ie. "Multiple") "Sources", for the same "Event".

NOT even, the User Created/Defined ones ...

    Plus ...

UNLESS they are WRONG, I prefer, to "Leave", OTHER Users/Patrons "Sources", that they have attached, in good faith, 'As Is'/'In-Situ' - ie. Don't touch ...

IF, you want to really do something, that is useful; THEN, put ALL the "Sources" in 'Date' ORDER; so as, to "Group" the SAME Dated "Sources" together.

    That would be more useful.

    The choice is yours.

    Just my thoughts.

I hope, that this may help/assist, somewhat.

    All

    FYI

    Just in passing ...

    Seriously ...

Moderators [ ie. 'FamilySearch' "Support" ( Personnel ), really NEED, to not only, "Read" the 'Words', of a 'Question'; but, also, to try and ascertain, the GREATER intent, of a 'Question"; and, especially, seriously consider the implications, of their response; BEFORE, submitting a response.

    Plus ...

IF, the 'FamilySearch Person Identifier' (PID), of an individual/person, in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', is INCLUDED, in a 'Question"; THEN, check-out, the individual/person; BEDORE, responding ...

    Because ...

This post, was NOT just about, whether "Sources", could be "Deleted" ...

There would be, a considerable IMPLICATION, with just "Deleting" a "Source(s)" ...

The 'Question', RELATED to, "Deleting" the "Sources", that APPEARED to be, "Listed", MULTIPLE times.

    Whereas ...

In fact, there are NO "Duplicate" SOURCES.

But, there are SIMILAR "Sources", for the same "Event" - and, they, should NOT, be "Detached", in this case.

    [ Neither, the User Created/Defined "Sources" ... ]

As, NONE of the attached "Sources" were WRONG (ie. they were ALL applicable) ...

    So ...

    That Said ...

A, QUICK; and, SIMPLE, 'Answer', is NOT always appropriate ...

And, generally ONLY "Experience"; and, 'Time', in Helping/Assisting OTHERS (and, working/participating in the Forum), will allow one, to try and ascertain, the GREATER intent, of a 'Question", of a Participant; and, especially, seriously consider the implications, of one's response.

Sorry ... 'Off My Soap Box' ...

    Just my thoughts.

"Too long; didn't read" summary: can you? Yes. Should you? Not necessarily.

There have been several threads recently discussing "duplicate" sources. The short summary for those discussions is that more often than not, the sources are not actually duplicates, they just refer to the same event, either recorded in multiple places, or filmed and indexed more than once (or both).

When multiple sources exist for the same event, they should all be attached to the people mentioned in the record, because this prevents them from being attached to the wrong people, and also increases the accuracy of the hinting system.
