I can’t respond specifically about the Mac, however, you won’t need to use your phone to view the 1950 census, but you need the phone app to fix the names. You can download the app (FamilySearch Get Involved) from wherever you get your phone apps. When FS is ready then the app will display the names. All you do then is accept or fix the spelling.

You can go directly to the National Archives 1950 census site from your mac and see the whole page. However you must have an address to locate the enumeration district number for now, before the indexing is complete.

In addition to the mobile app, the name-fixing experience will be available on the web. All you have to do is sign into familysearch.org and go to the "Get Involved" page. The feature is not available at the moment, but it should be available soon. The National Archives released the census last night, but it will take FamilySearch a little time to get the new data into its system.

went to national archives and found my family census, have been trying to get a code to transcribe that page and no code comes. I'm guessing they're overwhelmed?

The FamilySearch Get Involved app is available for both Apple iOS and Android. Those with recent versions of Mac OS X on their iMac or Macbook can install apps like an iPhone can from the App Store. That way you can use the Get Involved app on your iMac or Macbook instead of your phone. And there's always the web version available at https://www.familysearch.org/getinvolved/

    I hope that helps!

Images from the census will be available to start reviewing soon!
