Iv got a question about the translation from English to Swedish, How come Community are translated to Gemenskap? As in Sweden we use Community. Its confusing to understand what Gemenskap is.

I found this on line - supporting what you say that "Community" is an accepted term even in Sweden.

Google Translate . . . maybe or maybe not - "Community" is an English word that has apparently been assimilated into Sweden in the Internet/technical context.

Apparently the person who did the translation was not aware of that.

any translation would have done similar - if they did not know the Context for the word/phrase in question. but yes knowing the context "Community" seems to be the correct/best translation"

Hopefully a moderator will pass that info on to the correct team and have it corrected to the more appropriate translation of simply "Community".

@Ulf.Duvemyr Thank you for that piece of information on the use of the word community for online communities even when translated to Swedish. We are forwarding your information to the correct department for review. Your post is a good example of why online communities in general and FamilySearch Community specifically are built...to share knowledge! Thank you again!

so when you hear/read the word "Gemenskap" what does it tend to mean to you?

or are you saying that the word is not even legit?

If I had at hand some list of Swedish computer/technical terms (a dictionary of sorts) would the word "Community" be found there?

Hi, Stevenwl1947, I apologize if I'm not using this discussion correctly as it is my first time. I could not figure out how to post my own question. I am in need of help translating about a dozen Swedish records from the 1600s to 1700s. I just got off a consultation and she directed me to this site. I have been using a translator in my town for over a year and he has had to step back for family reasons. We are at the very end of our family search in Sweden and have just a few records remaining that will allow me to go back to the next generation. Unfortunately for me, the records have to be translated for me to understand them. I have the sites and specific pages identified. I would like to email these records to someone who can help. They are birth and family records and I have some very specific things I am looking for and can outline those for you if you can help. If you can help that would be outstanding. You can reach out to me by sending a message on FamilySearch Messages to Stevenwl1947. Thank you. If I am in the wrong place can you direct me to the proper place.

@Steven1947 You can request translation of a record or document in the Nordic Countries Genealogy Research group. Be sure to post the link to the document and which entry you are interested in. Request just one translation at a time. When that one has been attended to, then request the next. Hope to see you in the Nordic Countries group!
