How do I get a marriage record indexed?

just a user as yourself. Nice catch for KCZ5-PYZ. Will await an answer on same question I have that you asked. Other board community members are generous with their help around here.

My workaround is to just download the record to memories as a document, than link same via add "new source", "select memory" and/or add the URL. Basically, manually create a source to your ancestor for others to find years from now. Looks like you did download the marriage record. nice.

If looking for ideas on how to do this (work outside the box or workaround, alternate name use, handling disputes, etc), samples in a recent direct ancestor we had worked on: LZJQ-YQ9 John Swan b. 1721. Apologies as these are our workarounds... likely not perfect in execution or source "acceptable use", but we hope we gave others enough to take the profile to another level when we've passed as this FT shared tree matures over time vs. stuff found which isn't indexed or resources we found over the years which might get lost sitting in our files. we are still learning on best approaches. smile.

an aside...

If you continue working in FT to advance your ancestor's stories, a quick tip on names and nicknames. Unlike Ancestry, nicknames at FT are added in alternate name field, drop down choose nickname, enter nickname and maybe add reason as you typically might in any change you make for any field. FT computers get confused when trying to help you find more sources when " " are used. more simpler: go with "Charles Albertis Perkey" in birth name, and move "Charlie" to alternate name field.

Nice catch on the one marriage record for KCZ5-PYZ missed by a volunteer. Knowing volunteers are the backbone of this community, I typically look for workarounds or simple steps to align records to best support an ancestor's life story through sources when I run into small transcriptions errors, etc.. Came to suggest just downloading the image and attach to your ancestors profile; and you have done this already. nice.

Another workaround is creating a source with the link you provided or an image or document from memories. 2 simple options I use:

One, given you've already uploaded the image, after clicking "add source" button, choose "add new memory" source. Date, name source than next choice down is "add a memory". Choose select from gallery which should have the marriage record you uploaded. You might than also copy paste the URL link from above in the area where can this record be found, add description of the record, click facts the record supports, etc. and you've basically have accomplished the same goal of a transcription; linking a source record to a person.

or

2nd workaround, use same "add source" button, choose first option which has default to web page URL, paste your URL after adding the date description, add description for where found, general description, linking facts, etc.

In either case, review and edit since it may be your first and the website tool makes it easy, in this case, to edit until you feel content.

Others on these boards likely can give you a better more official answer on your specific question for is it possible to index a missed item from a completed volunteer transcription project. I'll watch the thread and thank in advance a more experienced user if an answer gets shared.

Also, an aside for KCZ5-PYZ and future family names worked if you continue sharing work on the collaborative tree....

if new to the Family Tree (FT) website, it is common to find name entry as what many are used to doing at Ancestry.com and add nicknames incorrectly to the primary FT vital birth name field and use " ". e.g. Charles "Charlie" Smith. This is INCORRECT. Computers here (FT) work different from Ancestry.com and if you aspire to let the computer do some of your elbow work searching for unattached sources, most users put nicknames in the alternate name field with a reason appropriate to circumstance. If you or others change the name to the more formal birth name that is the correct standard for FT.

@VandJ, @Harvest8 - I'm sorry that you've had to wait so long for an answer. I guess that what I have is an answer of sorts.

The issue here is not that a record was skipped in the indexing process, but rather, that original record was incomplete and NO marriage license was recorded for Charley Perkey and Gertie Lassiter.

So, looking at page 288 of the original document (image 224), we find the page divide into four sections: (1) a Bond for Marriage License, (2) an Affidavit, (3) the Marriage License, and (4) the Certificate of Marriage. This seems to be consistent across the document. Also consistent is that all of the 4 sections of the page apply to same same couple.

However, notice that for image 224, we find that only 3 of the items apply to Charley Perkey and Gertie Lassiter. The Marriage License is not for Charley and Gertie, but for another couple (Monroe Goff and Delma Ratliff).

With regard to the last item (i.e., the Certificate of Marriage), it is impossible to say, with certainty, that it applies to Charley and Gertie because the couple's names are not included in this section. It is, however, more likely that it applies to them than to Goff & Ratliff since the date of certificate (28 February 1926) is much earlier than the Marriage License for Goff & Ratliff - which is not reasonable.

I have made several attempts to find a marriage license for Charley Perkey and Gertie Lassiter, in FamilySearch and other sources, without success.

It appears that indexing for these records were based on the information in the Marriage License (which one might expect). This would be the reason that Charley & Gertie do not show up in the index for the collection. It also means that there is a strongly likelihood that the marriage License may not exist (at least, in online, searchable records).

You might consider contacting the Sharp County Clerk's office, in Ash Flat, Arkansas. I have found a phone number: (870) 994-7361.

Thank you for pointing out the error.

I found two images later, Goff-Ratliff has the correct information recorded on all four sections.

on Perkey-Lassiter record, the fourth section has the correct minister and dates for them not Goff-Ratliff. Goff and Ratliff were married by mr Black, not Mr Bone and they were married in May not February.

I have the Perkey-Lassiter original marriage license, it has that it is recorded on the same page that the bond and affidavit are actually recorded on. Wasn’t sure I had the license until you pointed out the error and I checked my recently acquire genealogy records from my deceased mother in law and found it.

I am going to post a picture of the license on their records

I think I will take the license to the court house and look through the book to see if I can find if it was recorded on the wrong record or never recorded by the court house in error.

I have looked through a lot of images , there are a lot of mistakes.. not sure if they really knew how to do the job. 😂
